January 2018

Trying to remember all the February events.  This is certainly not the way to keep a blog updated, but I will try.  I finally gave up trying to get some exercise around the neighbourhood.  The police met me at the end of the path I've been running on and told me it was prohibited.  When I switched to the parking ramp at the mall, I was also prohibited.  I finally joined the Renaissance Gym at the mall, where I can excursive to my hearts content, legally, for a price.
We made a second trip out to Cu Chi Tunnels, this time at a different entrance.  It didn't seem quite as authentic an experience, more touristy, but they also had a shooting range where you could buy as many rounds of ammo you wanted to shoot, so the background noise changed everything.
The feeling of being on a battleground was real, and unsettling for both Doug and me.

After Districts meeting, (once a week, Tuesday mornings) we go to lunch with the elders at a little bun cha place near the church.  I love the 'feeding trough' posture and had to make a record of this.

Topiaries seem to be popping up everywhere in anticipation of Tet.  On a Saturday, we rode the free bus to the end of the line, and were able to see these specimen while waiting for the return trip.

I went to visit LinDa Bui at her house in Cu Chi.  This chicken was sitting on about 40 eggs.

Another new restaurant we discovered.  Hue-type food in a beautiful setting

This is one of the people we are teaching.  he is obsessed with number, dates, and coincidences -- especially anything relating to JFK.  He brought his daughter to meet us during one of his lessons.
The Group of Missionaries.  We take a group picture at each zone conference.

We actually found a tortilla manufacturer -- a small building about 1 1/2 hours from here in the middle of nowhere.  when I approached the door, this is who stared back at me.   a very friendly bassett hound.
